Emerging from the burgeoning Dublin punk scene, The Murder Capital are an intriguing prospect. While Girl Band have built a strong following from their innovative 2015 debut Holding Hands With Jamie, and everyone is aware of Fontaines DC after the release of their top-ten album Dogrel earlier this year, The Murder Capital are still very much in the ‘spoken in hushed tones’ stage of their development.

Based on what we know so far, though, it could be that they end up being the best of the lot.

The two songs that have been released to date – ‘Feeling Fades’, a pounding post-punk track, and ‘Green & Blue’, a more melodic effort – display a harsh, raw beauty that grabs the attention. A prominent UK broadsheet described their live show as “outrageously exciting….. New Year fireworks in a metal tent,” comparing the band to Joy Division and Pixies. They are fierce and angry, and it is already clear that they have plenty to say.

The praise for their live show is a sentiment echoed by many who have seen them so far, including on a recent support slot for IDLES in London. The buzz around them is definitely growing. One thing is for sure – if Fontaines DC think they are great, that’s a pretty solid recommendation. If The Murder Capital are anywhere near as good as their fellow Dublin luminaries, you’re going to want to join this party at the ground floor.
