For fans of Rozi Plain’s polished folk, Thursday is going to be folking good. She’s playing her first full-length Bristol show of her new album at SouthBank. Although she tours regularly, it will nonetheless be a very welcome visit.
Rozi’s latest album, What A Boost, released just a couple of weeks ago, is a collection of dreamlike and tranquil songs. It has been quite rightly well-received by critics. Wholly pleasant and immersive, it’s a joy to listen to. Live, it’ll hopefully be just as enjoyable. ‘Swing Shut’ and ‘Symmetrical’ are sure to be highlights.
Rozi recently played Rough Trade on Record Store Day, and is certainly no stranger to Bristol, having studied Art here in the late noughties. Not only that, but here she also co-founded a collective of locals known as Cleaner Records, and had a job painting ferries on the Avon. Now on her fourth album, Rozi seems to have plenty of transferable creative experience.
Supporting is Nuala Honan, Australian-born singer and local Bristol favourite. Having had some time away from the limelight recently, Honan is now recording a follow-up to 2013 album The Tortoise. She counts Rozi-associate This Is The Kit among her fans. She’s bound to win many more at SouthBank come Thursday.
