Starting with the delicate swells of ‘Intro’, Omni-X’s debut EP ‘One’ strikes you as something poignant from the get-go. There’s a little M83 (circa ‘Dead Cities, Red Seas’ and ‘Lost Ghosts’) or Portico (in particular, ‘Window Seat’ springs to mind) hidden amidst the faux-cinematic build up, for sure.
These textural delicacies simmer through on following track, ‘Black Heart’. There’s plenty to hear in its three-minute lifetime, but things never feel too busy. This is electropop done by the books, but in a way that still warrants getting excited about.
Lead single ‘Waste Of Time’, however, is the EP’s crowning gem, a track which has already received significant airplay on BBC Introducing. The trio’s Banks, MØ, FKA twigs and Ellie Goulding influences are never more apparent than on this track and, as far as pop music goes, this is about as good as it gets.
