10th December // O2 Academy
Breaking the mould in the current pop soundscape isn’t an easy game. Big contenders like Anne-Marie, RAYE, Bebe Rexha and Dua Lipa have been evolving over the last few years and making bigger waves than ever before. At the age of 22, Mabel is the understated behind-the-scenes champion. The daughter of 90s trip-hop star, Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack producer, Cameron McVey already has the hit ‘Finders Keepers’ under her belt which made the top 10 in the UK charts – not to mention her support slot on a tour with Harry Styles and the mounting number of energetic collaborations with artists like Jax Jones, Stefflon Don and Kojo Funds.
Residing in Camden Town, the Swedish singer first broke onto the scene with her debut single ‘Know Me Better’. Fast-forward to now and her latest track, ‘One Shot’ sheds raw percussion for slick dancehall beats in the tantalising lead-up to her untitled debut album. Yet following this year’s reissue of her mixtape Ivy & Roses, it’s about time that Mabel got her own spotlight and gave her R&B earworms the live treatment. Look out for the addictive ‘Cigarette’ that she recorded with RAYE and Stefflon Don, or the punchy heartbreak ballad, ‘Come Over’. Don’t miss this star on the rise at the O2 Academy on Monday 10th December.
