Idles have been awarded BBC 6 Music’s Album of The Year with their sophomore effort ‘Joy As An Act of Resistance’.
As we begin to reach the close of another year and ‘Album Of The Year‘ lists rear their heads, the Bristol band in particular have predictably begun appearing on various outlets’ acclaimed end of year lists with their career-defining second record.
in a statement from the radio station, they stated “Joy As An Act Of Resistance takes all the rage, passion, joy and dark humour that often defines our modern times and sends it screaming back with 12 ferociously beautiful tracks“.
Steve Lamacq further commented “It’s a really powerful record, articulate but quite acerbic… with understanding and wit, fury and frustration“.
In response to the their No.1 placing, the band declared “Being included in the list is obviously humbling but more so the recognition from an institution that represents a huge portion of what we love in music: hard work and vibrancy towards new ideas and creative thinking. Thank you to all at 6 Music for helping us build our careers and our faith in the music industry.”
BBC 6 Music aren’t the only platform to be rewarding the hard work of Britain’s most exciting band. Rough Trade placed the album at #3 in their End of Year List, while record shops Drift and Resident have included the record in their Top 100s.
