It’s been a pretty far out trip for Dead Meadow, coming a long way from the Washington D.C. punk/indie scene that birthed them 17 years ago to quickly become real movers and shakers in the psych/stoner rock scene.
Taking inspiration from the heavy rock riffage of bands like Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd, as well as the fantastical literature of H.P. Lovecraft and other writers, they’ve always side-stepped expectation and sought their own path intuitively; fusing scuzzed-up, layered guitars with dreamy vocals and a blues mentality to create an organic, far reaching sound all their own. Latest release, the epic double-length album Warble Womb, welcomes back drummer Mark Laughlin and sees the original line-up mellow into a more chord-led progression, without losing the groove-ridden edge they’ve become known for.
Hitting up Bristol’s Exchange on the 17th March, this is a chance to float downstream with one of psychedelic rock’s finest as they gather energy on their European tour. Don’t miss it.
