17th-23rd October | various venues

Simple Things is always one of the most exciting days in Bristol’s musical calendar, and this year the fun has been spread across a whole week. From the 17th-21st, there will be a series of Simple Things EXT events, a series described as “an extended programme of unique performances, talks and art installations supported by Arts Council England in the week preceding the main festival,” featuring the likes of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Tarik Barri. All the info on the EXT events can be found here.

Saturday 22nd October sees the main event come to various venues around the city centre, with four headliners that rival any that Simple Things have provided before. Warpaint are bringing their ‘New Song’ and best album yet ‘Heads Up’ to Colston Hall along with the ever-elusive Death Grips, while Kano is riding high on the back of the Mercury-nominated ‘Made In The Manor’. They’re joined by Russian techno wizard Nina Kraviz.

Stretching across the whole Colston Hall complex, the Firestation and the Island, Lakota and the Coroner’s Court, SWX and more, it’s set to be the most all-encompassing Simple Things yet. Not forgetting our own Bristol Live Magazine stage at The Gryphon, featuring Bristol’s brightest hopes LICE, Van Zeller and more – get all the info on the happenings here.

Elsewhere on the Simple Things line-up, there’s bright hopes The Big Moon, genre-bending madness courtesy of Three Trapped Tigers, and a special late-night set in the Colston Hall foyer from Charlotte Church, who’s bringing her late night pop dungeon, talk of this year’s festival circuit and an absolute highlight of Glastonbury 2016, to Simple Things, guaranteeing a drinking’n’dancing end to the night. If you’re too tired to make it over to Lakota for Ben UFO and co, that is.

Tickets for the main event of Simple Things 2016 are sold out, but there are limited tickets remaining for the closing party at Colston Hall with John Carpenter on Sunday 23rd October. Grab them here, and watch the montage video from last year’s Simple Things to get excited below.
