Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have an intense, dark, sexy sound crossing several different genres – there’s garage and psychedelic rock in there with a big funky dose of the blues. But at the core is a die-hard, old-school rock band in the true snarling sense. Named after Marlon Brando’s bike gang in ‘The Wild One’ they come with all the sedition and controversy you could wish for – cue band members coming to blows, falling out with record labels and hissy fits a plenty.
Judging by reviews of gigs at venues like Brixton Academy and festivals like Roskilde, a BRMC set will always deliver a night to remember. When they played the 100 Club in London recently (with Muses Matt Bellamy in the audience) not only did they set the house on fire musically, but when a fire alarm meant everyone had to be evacuated at the end of the gig, guitarist Levon Been turned up and played an acoustic set to a pavement audience – epic!
Put simply – their songs are very easy to get into, and quickly so. Known to be a favourite of fellow lip-curling rebel Noel Gallagher, this moody trio are coming to Bristol as part of a UK tour. They will be sure to rock the house at the O2 Academy on 27 August so I for one will be digging out the ripped jeans and studs and getting ready to let rip any pent-up anger and frustration on a frenzied dance floor.
