Bristol synth-rock band Poisonous Birds have had a busy week. In one fell swoop (no pun intended), the two piece have announced new single ‘Old Sun’, a dark, pulsating mix of menacing synths and atmospheric vocals, new EP ‘Gentle Earth’ AND launched their own record label Be Softly. Phew.

The band, made up of Tom Ridley and Finn Mclean, combined with Ellie Goulding‘s bass player Simon Francis on the EP, and say that it ‘explores our relationship with Earth and how its generous giving might soon become violent destruction and how that would feel to a survivor.’

Tom adds: “Finn & I have made precisely the record we set out to make. It has moments of delicacy, moments of crashing intensity and it’s totally real. We’re really proud of it.”

The EP will be released  on 3rd February 2017 on Be Softly, something that Toms says will be ‘be bigger than a label: it’s a collective of artists who share a vision. We’re collaborating, cross-pollinating and doing it on our terms.’

The band will be playing their last shows of the year on the 8th December at the Stag and Hounds, and on 14th December at the Thunderbolt so head on down.
