Ever since emerging from their cloud of mystery that shrouded them back in 2013, Jungle have succeeded at bringing us sophisticated pop gold with glittering shades of funk. Formerly an unknown UK production duo, only named as J and T, they first began to create a buzz from their debut single ‘Platoon’ in late 2013. Their music videos mirrored viral clips of that time with ‘The Heat’ and ‘Platoon’ featuring breakdancing teens and synchronised roller skaters. But it wasn’t until they unleashed their most everyday and down-to-earth track ‘Busy Earnin’ that they lifted off. The track, which laments the perils of working too much for money, ironically sent them into the stratosphere, leading them to break into America, performing on prime time US shows such as Jimmy Kimmel and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Following the release of their eponymous debut album, they were shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2014. Yet after their dazzling shows in 2015, they dropped off the radar. It wasn’t until they announced their 2018 world tour that it became clear that the new kids of 2014 were back to make more noise. Soon the funk collective will be bringing the nu-disco hit ‘Time’ to your ears, along with other cuts like the reflective ‘Drops’ and sultry anthem ‘The Heat.’ Expect new material to feature as well, unreleased song ‘Happy Man’ has filtered through the internet in various clips and already shows promise. See it for yourself and catch Jungle at the O2 Academy on 9th May.
