M&S isn’t an influence your usual singer-songwriter might list, but I suppose Isolde isn’t your usual singer-songwriter. ‘Sweet Tooth’, the second song on this beguiling EP, is as syrupy sweet as you might imagine, but forget your Value range: we’re sitting firmly in Finest here.
The rest of the EP is similarly luxuriant. An array of horns, strings and field recordings lever you far away from your laptop, sometimes to the British seaside, sometimes somewhere far more exotic. She describes herself as ‘dream-folk-toy-tronica’, but it’s hard to nail this excellent debut down so easily. After all, it’s not just an EP, it’s an Isolde EP.
