A fundraiser aiming to raise funds and awareness of the recent happenings in Chechnya is set to take place at Roll for the Soul on 12th May.

In recent weeks, Chechens have faced extreme abuse and torture in “Gay concentration camps” with several people killed by police or even their own families. Fundraising organiser Luke Carter says that “the international community cannot remain silent.”

‘Out To Shout’ will feature a brilliant line-up of bands – Spunking Octochoke described as a ‘Bristol 2-bit spunk rock band’; Domestic Sound Cupboard who ‘come together to create improvised music from scratch’; Glittasphyxia, a ‘feral exhibitionist, sexually liberated, fantastical adventurer’ and Drunken Butterfly (think Kim Gordon, Babes in Toyland, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith). There will also be live illustration from Bethan Mure. Entry will be £5 OTD.

Funds raised will go to the Russian LGBT Network, who are offering support and counseling to those affected as well as co ordinating evacuations of gays from Chechnya. Head to the Facebook event for more details and in the meantime, check out a spoken word performance from Glittasphyxia below.
