Anyone who flicked through the pages our January issue will know that we’re pretty big fans of Bristol’s finest Fenne Lily, the cover star for our Ones to Watch for 2018 publication. For us, she pretty much ticks all the boxes. Writer and performer of some simply stunning songs? Check. Supporter of independent music venues? Of course. Deep-rooted ties to the Bristol music scene? You betcha! In conjunction with Independent Venue Week, this Saturday she plays at the Louisiana to a sold-out crowd anticipating beautiful and brilliant music.
Having gathered much attention from national radio stations and on streaming websites with the release of 2016 single ‘Top to Toe’ (it’s been played over 30 million times on Spotify), Lily has been gradually building up a stellar catalogue of work, ready to break through to the mainstream consciousness with the upcoming release of her debut album On Hold in early April. Playing a venue familiar to her and one that perfectly compliments the intimate capacity of her lyrics, those lucky enough to possess a ticket will get a preview of this undoubtedly enchanting material in one of only two gigs hosted by Lily before the album’s release date.
However, those not present at the weekend need not worry nor wallow in their disappointment for too long; Fenne Lily returns to Bristol as part of her UK-wide tour to play Thekla on 17th April, where I’m sure there will be both repeat and new attendees, seeking a glimpse of one of Britain’s brightest emerging stars.
