Following their fourth album, A Fever Dream, Manchester indie-rockers, Everything Everything return to Bristol on Monday to deliver their trademark combination of soaring falsetto and infectious synth-fuelled choruses. Originally splitting opinion with their unique sound and slightly cryptic lyrics, the nerdy rockers firmly won their place in the public’s hearts after the release of Mercury-Prize-nominated Get to Heaven, home to the compelling ‘Distant Past’ and ‘Regret’.
From jerky Arc opener, ‘Cough Cough’ to ‘Desire’, this is a band that pulls you in with their endearing ability to merge frantic electronica with politically-charged lyrics and an upbeat energy. The result is an addictive concoction that you won’t forget in a hurry.
With an extremely varied back catalogue riddled with enigmatic guitar riffs, Everything Everything have come a long way since their slightly confused beginning, where nobody could quite understand what lead vocalist Jonathan Higgs was saying – and are now a force to be reckoned with in the realm of indie math-rock. Watch out for fan favourites ‘Kemosabe’ and ‘Suffragette Suffragette’ for a roaring reception.
Support is provided by flamboyant London five-piece Pumarosa, who are currently touring their debut album The Witch.
