22nd October | The Louisiana

Formed in Brighton as a University art project and based in London, with an Icelandic lead-singer and a jangling guitar sound reminiscent of the early-90s American alternative scene, you’d be forgiven for questioning just what to expect from all-female three piece Dream Wife at the Louisiana this Sunday. An energetic and charismatic performance? Probably. A series of ferocious tunes from their thus-far small, yet exceptional catalogue? Almost definitely. A glimpse of one of the brightest young talents emerging from the British music scene? Undoubtedly.

Indeed, the fact that the band have received such gleaming praise from both critics and fellow artists (indie heavyweights The Cribs recently described them as ‘one of the most new bands around’ before inviting them as main support to their annual “Cribsmas” gigs) despite having only released a couple of EPs and a handful of singles is testament to their enticing and evident potential. Most recent single ‘Fire’ is irresistibly explosive and strangely romantic, whilst standout single ‘Somebody’ exhibits sonic command that most bands take years to achieve.

Whilst Sunday night may traditionally be the time for lamenting the lost weekend whilst dreading the working week ahead, use this weekend as an opportunity to experience the established excellence of Dream Wife’s work so far, unquestionably mixed in with a few superb new numbers for good measure.
