As sub-genres attempt to box in the essence of bands into understandable categories, a band that keeps producing boundless music is Bad Sounds.
The Chippenham quintet hinges upon brothers Callum and Ewan Merrett. The release of their sublime debut album, Get Better contained indie-infused R&B tracks of uplifting substance. Having previously released EPs that cemented them as ones-to-watch, the album has been heralded as a spritely addition to the year, with airplay across Radio 1 and beyond. Hand-picked by Annie Mac herself as she discovered their wondrous pieces, their chosen name certainly juxtaposes their offerings.
This year has seen the outfit progress to bigger festival stages, captivating the hearts of many with their work that captures the essence of youth. Their sets are always packed with fun, their jovial attitude enhanced by tongue-in-cheek delivery.
With influences ranging from psych to funk, Bad Sounds put on a live show where variety is key. Their set at SWX is their biggest Bristol show to date; the city has become a home away from home for them. After an intimate, stripped-back set celebrating Get Better at Rough Trade this summer, you can enjoy the album in its fully-fledged glory with support from Indoor Pets and Dyland Cartlidge.
