5th April | Gallimaufry

A night at The Gallimaufry featuring Bristol’s finest experimental jazz bands? Don’t mind if I do. Astral Tusk are a brand-new collective whose aim is to galvanize the experimental jazz scene, whilst also offering an insight into improvised modern jazz. The night will consist of three-piece math/jazz hip-cats, Waldo’s Gift, who are currently killing it with their weekly residency at The Gallimaufry and due to unleash their first full-length release.

Alongside them will be Bristol’s favourite buskers, Snazzback. Their vivid jazz and soul improv sessions are an absolute delight to hear when walking through the city. Throw in a bit of afrobeat and some electronica and you have the most electic, sumptuous sonic gumbo you can imagine. Let’s hope that they trail material from their forthcoming album, Hedge.

Joining them will also be Hippo, who are currently pioneering the future jazz scene in Bristol, their immersive sound which is soaked in synths is not to be missed. Alun Elliott-Williams of Waldo’s Gift says that the collective will be “united in an approach of improvisation, groove and synthesised sound.”

Astral Tusk will be making its maiden voyage this Thursday at The Gallimaufry; entry is free, so there’s no excuse not to be there for this unmissable event.
